KEVIN MILLAR JOINS THE BEAUMONT BOYS
Toronto Blue Jay and Beaumont Native Added To Host The Beaumont Boys Bash
BEAUMONT, TX - Toronto Blue Jays first baseman and Beaumont native, Kevin Millar, will join country music artists, Tracy Byrd, and Zona Jones to host the Beaumont Boys Bash.
Byrd, Jones, and Millar have been friends for several years and it was a natural fit to include Millar in the event. Millar played baseball for Lamar University and entered the major leagues in 1993. Over the course of his 11 year career, he has played for the Florida Marlins, the Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles, and is currently with the Toronto Blue Jays. Millar was with the Red Sox when they won the 2004 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Millar, his wife Jeana, and their 3 children live in Beaumont during the off season.
Byrd says, "It's given me a lot of joy over the years to witness how well Millar has done in the big leagues. I've even taken my boys to several of his games in Florida and Boston and our families have always rooted for each other in our own careers. The Bash is the perfect chance for us to do something together and at the same time help others. Will Millar take the stage and perform with us? We'll all have to wait and see!"
Jones is thrilled to have Millar join their efforts. "Kevin and I have been close friends for many years...since he played baseball here at Lamar University in Beaumont. I watched him work his way up through the ranks of professional baseball to become a World Champion with the Boston Red Sox. He has been a tremendous asset to every team he has ever joined. I am proud to have him become one of the "Beaumont Boys!" He sings and plays guitar about as good as I hit the 2-1 slider...so he will fit in just fine with the rest of us!"
The Beaumont Boys Bash will be held in Beaumont, Texas, October 23 - 25, 2009. Proceeds from the weekend will benefit Children's Miracle Network, Netcasters Youth Ministries, the Garth House, the Boy Scouts, and The Humane Society.
